These amino acid chains are majorly classified into two parts, namely- Enzymes and Hormones. Both, the enzymes and the hormones, are chains of amino acids that either make a reaction happen or assist a reaction that is already in progress by boosting its pace.
Among these, the enzymes are proteins that play the role of a catalyst in almost all the biochemical reactions that take place in your body. The major difference between hormones and enzymes is that enzymes are released by organs that need them. Whereas, the hormones are secreted at various glands that release them in the bloodstream. Enzymes secreted by the liver:

- Alanine transaminase (ALT)
- Aspartate transaminase (AST)

The primary group of enzymes secreted by the liver is called as aminotransferases. These enzymes help in the conversion of carbs into glycogen. Glycogens are energy packets that our body can utilize for gaining energy. This process generally takes place only when there is an excess of sugar that is not required at the moment.
There are two major types of aminotransferases:
This enzyme is primarily produced only by the liver cells. It belongs to the aminotransferases class of enzymes. Thus, it is used for the synthesis of glycogen in your body.
Unlike the other enzymes on this list, the AST is found in other parts of the body as well, other than the liver. It is present in the brain, kidney and other organs of the body.
Elevated liver enzymes:
When there is an issue in the liver, the cells are in an irritated state. Due to the damage or inflammation, these cells secrete excess amounts of liver enzymes. Thus, it results in the findings of these enzymes in the bloodstream during a blood test. The presence of these enzymes in the bloodstream is a common sighting. But, recurring detection of a high level of liver enzymes in the blood can be an indication of some severe liver damage or underlying disease that needs to be paid heed to.
Among the general enzymes that are detected in the blood during a liver condition, the AST is not considered a reliable enzyme. As the aspartate transferase is an enzyme that occurs in more place than one, like the brain, kidney and also other organs, it is hard to tell the cause of the enzyme in the bloodstream.
It might be present in the bloodstream due to the damage caused in some other organ, not necessarily the liver. Thus, to discover any issue in your liver, a simple blood test is effective due to the elevated liver enzymes in your body.
